Mounting a TV, mirror or any heavy object needs solid fixing. So the first job is finding what is actually behind the plaster, and the second is choosing an anchor rated for several times the load rather than for the load itself.

## Questions we get asked

### Can a television go on any wall?

No, and this is important to get right. A bracket needs studs, masonry or a proper cavity fixing rated for the load. Plasterboard alone will not hold a television or any heavy item.

### What about the cable?

Signal and data cables can be run behind the wall and brought out low down, which is what most people do. Anything on the power side is a sparky's job — a different job for a qualified electrician.

### Can you hang a heavy mirror?

Yes, and heavy mirrors are the ones most worth doing properly. They want fixing into something solid at two points minimum, with a fixing rated well above the actual weight.

### How heavy a television or mirror can you hang?

More than most people expect, provided it goes into something solid. The bracket is almost never the weak point — the fixing behind it is, and that is chosen for the wall that is actually there rather than the one assumed.
