# Deck repairs on the Gold Coast

Deck repairs across the Gold Coast and hinterland. Handy G's Maintenance has traded since 2015. Call or text 0430 552 158 for a quote.

Decks fail from underneath. By the time a board feels soft underfoot the water has usually been sitting on the frame below it for a couple of seasons, and the fixings have been rusting the whole time. That is why the first thing done on a deck repair is lifting boards to inspect the beams underneath.

Until the bearers and joists are visible there is no way to price the job accurately.

## Questions we get asked

### How do I know whether it is the boards or what is under them?

You need to inspect the beams underneath by removing the boards on top. If the board is soft but the timber under it is hard, it is a board job. If the beams are soft as well, the boards are the symptom and not the problem. Send a photo of the underside if you can get to it.

### The rot is only in one corner. Does the whole deck have to come up?

Not usually. Rot travels along wet timber, so the work is to chase it back to sound material and fix it from there if possible. On the pool surround shown on this page, the boards came up along the run where water had been sitting, the bearers under that run were replaced, and the rest of the frame was left alone because it was still good.

### Can you match old boards?

Usually close, rarely exact. New hardwood goes in a different colour and tone and weathers back over a season or two.
